Define Multiple Material Classes in Gridded Seams

You can model multiple material classes in a single seam in the grid model. Modelling multiple material classes in a seam is helpful when you have multiple grades of material in a seam and want to treat them separately for separate stockpiling or use in stockpile blending. For more information see the example of defining multiple material classes, which uses the coal_minex demonstration data.

Note: To divide seams into separate material classes you use material class cutoffs.

  1. In the Define Geology > Models tab, in the Models pane, click Add.
  2. Select the seam model, and click Open.
  3. In the Material classes data grid, define the material classes by extracting them from the model or by entering them manually.
  4. Note: You must define a material class for each grade of material you want to treat separately in the model.

  5. Select Calculate qualities for each material class you want to treat separately in the model.
  6. Choose Spreadsheets > Enable Spreadsheet Views.
  7. Choose Spreadsheets > Material Class Cutoffs, which enables the Material Class Cutoffs spreadsheet.
  8. In the Setup Schedule > Locations tab, click the Cutoffs tab.
  9. Tip: The Cutoffs tab is located in the lower left of the Locations canvas.

  10. For each mining location to which you want to apply multiple material classes, fill out a row for the mining location and material class name combinations.
    1. In the Active? column, select yes.
    2. In the Mining Location Names column, select the mining location.
    3. Tip: To apply the material class cutoff to all mining locations, select the asterisk (*).

    4. In the Material Class Name column, select the material class.
    5. In the Quality Attribute Name column, select the Quality that contains the values you want to use to define the cutoffs.
    6. Note: Usually the quality attribute is the grade attribute.

    7. In the Minimum Value column, type the minimum value for each material class cutoff.
    8. In the Maximum Value column, type the maximum value for each material class cutoff.
  11. If you want to set a start date after which to apply the material class cutoffs, or add any constraints to the application of the material class cutoff, fill out the Effective Date column and the constraints columns.
